Time to get your hands dirty and let the sparks fly. Take the chance to forge a range of pieces to take home with you. A great experience for novices to try your hands at one of the oldest trades.

The day will be spent at the anvil working with hot steel, sparks and fire. Over the day we will cover the basics and produce a range of items including hooks, key rings, letter openers, Fire poker and many other bits and pieces as well.

Run by professional full time master blacksmith Will Holland FWCB of Phoenix Forge.

The courses are typically run in small groups to ensure that everyone gets as much one on one tuition as they require to develop their skills.

The courses are hosted in a dedicated professional forge, which is relaxed working environment you will be given the time to progress at your own speed to build your confidence in working with the tools and the hot metal.

If you have done some forging already that’s great too, we can demonstrate more elaborate techniques and tricks to help you progress further.

The course is open to all over the age of 13. We can accommodate groups, couples, stag & hen dos.

What’s included in the price?

All the tools, materials, P.P.E (safety glasses, hearing protection, apron, etc)

Free tea, coffee and Squash provided but please bring your own packed lunch.

You will need to wear work type clothes, no nylon or synthetics etc. (Jeans and T shirt most appropriate expect sparks & flames)

Also boots are preferred or good leather shoes, no open toed footwear is allowed in the forge for safety reasons.

  • Risks involved: Some of the more common hazards of forging are burns and smoke/gas poisoning. Working in an industry where smoke or gas are in the surrounding atmosphere all day is damaging, but protective clothing and equipment can reduce this possible damage slightly. It is key to take frequent breaks in the fresh air. Other possible hazards include: Cuts and scrapes Crushed fingers Sight or hearing damage Repetitive strain in the elbow Knee strain (due to standing for long hours)
